First Aid at Work Blended elearning Course

Course Description

This course enables each learner to complete 6 hours pre-learning online followed by 12 hours face to face training which covers all the practical elements of the course.  It is fully compliant with HSE criteria for First Aid at Work. 

Part 1:
Learners complete an e-learning module which will take approximately 6 hours to complete. At the end of the module there is a multiple-choice assessment

Part 2:
A two day practical session on skills covered during the e-learning module. This will involve formative assessment along with practical demonstrations.


This online course can be completed on any PC or mobile device.

  • Allows learners to work at their own pace, testing their knowledge as they progress through the course

Self checks after each section of the course and an end of course multiple choice assessment*


On successful completion, learners can download a certificate as evidence that they have passed the course


This course has been approved by the CPD Accreditation Group and qualifies for 6 CPD points. It has been approved by the FAIB (First Aid Industry Body)

*For enhanced quality assurance, it is strongly recommended that the elearning module is completed prior to the practical face to face training day to ensure that learners have the opportunity to ask their trainer any questions about what they have learned and so that the trainer can test learners’ knowledge in the classroom before issuing the Full First Aid at Work certificate


Course content provides learners with the theoretical knowledge to:

  • understand the role and responsibilities of the first-aider
  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unresponsive (including seizure);
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automated external defibrillator
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)
  • recognise the presence of major illness (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes) and provide appropriate first aid
  • administer first aid to a casualty with:
    • injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries;
    • chest injuries
    • burns and scalds
    • eye injuries
    • sudden poisoning
    • anaphylactic shock
